The opportunity:

Fortescue is offering 2026 apprenticeship opportunities in Electrical, Automotive Electrical, and Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) trades. Roles are available across the Pilbara and in Port Hedland, with a mix of residential (Port Hedland based) and FIFO options (ex Perth, Karratha, Hedland, Broome and Busselton). These apprenticeships provide hands-on training, nationally recognised qualifications, and a pathway into a long-term career with a global mining and green energy leader.

About the program:

  • 4-year apprenticeship program with a mix of residential (Port Hedland) and FIFO opportunities
  • Structured on-the-job training through coordinated rotations across Fortescue’s operational sites, including Port, Rail and Mine sites
  • Off-the-job training delivered through TAFE WA (including North Regional TAFE – Pundulmarra Campus, South Metro TAFE, and Cloudbreak Trade Training Centre)
  • Completion of a nationally recognised trade qualification relevant to your apprenticeship stream
  • Remuneration above award rate, reflective of roster type, work requirements and training commitments
  • Opportunity to apply for a permanent role in your trade upon successful completion of the program

 

About You

  • Must be 18 years or older at the commencement of the program (February 2026)
  • Hold a full, valid Australian driver’s licence
  • Have a genuine interest in technical or mechanical work, with a passion for problem solving
  • Comfortable working in physical, hands-on environments, including remote locations and night shifts
  • Able to commit to FIFO or residential rosters, depending on the role location
  • A sound understanding of maths and/or a willingness to learn
  • Completion of a relevant pre-apprenticeship is highly regarded but not essential
  • Previous experience in mining, mechanical, or technical work is an advantage but not required

 

The Application Process

Step One
Submit your application – be sure to answer all the questions and provide as much information as possible. Please attach the below to your application:

  • A current resume listing your relevant work experience to date
  • A cover letter describing yourself and motivation for applying
  • Copies of all supporting documentation such relevant certifications and/or qualifications

The quality of your application is part of the initial shortlisting criteria!

Step Two
If your application is shortlisted and progressed to the next stage, you will be contacted and invited to attend an Assessment Centre which will consist of the below activities:

  • Speed Interviews
  • Group Activity
  • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment

You must attend the Assessment Centre in person to be considered for a position.

Step Three
Applicants will be notified of the outcome by the end of September 2025. Successful external applicants will be required to complete pre-employment checks and onboarding.

Start dates are scheduled for early 2026.
